12 players competed in each of the two chess tournaments held Saturday, July 16 at the Medieval Festival in Cooks Creek. Winner of the unrated section with a 5.0 record was Gleb Zudin, followed by Tyler Earle and Zach Piche with 4.0.

In the open section, Isaac Wiebe had a perfect 5.0 to win the top section, followed by Aleksander Zashev with 4.0. Jeremie Piche won the second section with 3.5 followed by Joshua Huston-Earle and Carter Marshall with 3.0. Ken Marshall won the third section with 3.0 followed by Gleb Zubin with 2.5.

It was a wonderful day at the Festival, with the giant chess set in active use, and an exciting live person chess match featuring two local players to close out the day. Thanks to the organizers for once again inviting the Manitoba Chess Association to be part of the Festival.
