The Manitoba High School Chess Championship, in support of Peace in Ukraine, was held on March 28 at Sisler High School in Winnipeg. Seventy students from 34 schools participated, including a number of Ukrainian student refugees.
Winning the championship was Ievgeniia-Diana Furda of Kelvin High School with a perfect 6.0 score. Mason Bilugan of Miles Macdonnell Collegiate finished second with 5.5 points. Alex Felizardo of Sisler and Scott Anderson of West Kildonan Collegiate tied for third with 5.0 points.
The event also featured a school team competition where the scores of the top three players from each school were used to determine the winner. Team champions with 14.0 points was Sisler High School, followed by Miles Macdonnell Collegiate (12.5 points) and Garden City Collegiate (11 points).
